Lake Ridge is chalk and canopy. High Pointe is sod match. Do not mix them.
This note is about Sidewalk & Driveway Root Barrier on Cedar Hill lots — not a copied service page. Downtown Cedar Hill and High Pointe in zip 75104 are the streets we have in mind. Cedar Hill sits on the White Rock escarpment. Lake Ridge lots are chalk and canopy, not a Frisco parkway. High Pointe is the HOA walk. We do not copy a Blackland method onto a chalk face without walking the cut.
US-67. Lake Ridge wants estate-oak isolation. High Pointe wants sod match. Landmarks crews actually use: Cedar Hill State Park, Lake Ridge, Historic Downtown, US-67, Dogwood Canyon.
Cedar Hill’s High Pointe is the HOA walk
Lake Ridge is chalk and canopy. High Pointe is sod match. Do not mix them. That is the Cedar Hill version of Walks & Drives: City notice on a public walk.
This is the volume job in Dallas–Fort Worth: a parkway oak or cedar elm, a 4-foot strip, and a sidewalk the HOA now wants flat. We trench the tree side of the walk, set vertical HDPE, and restore the parkway so the next inspection is about grass, not a grind.
Driveway aprons fail at the flare of pecans and live oaks. East Dallas, Richardson, and Waxahachie see this constantly. We isolate the apron, not the whole driveway, unless the root plate has already traveled under the slab.
Soil, trees, and housing stock in Cedar Hill
Soil. Austin Chalk and escarpment soils — not a Plano Blackland trench A panel hanging in a shrink-swell void is not a barrier — we backfill in lifts so Blackland clay does not open a highway behind the face.
Trees. cedar, live oak, post oak, pecan, native escarpment canopy A Highland Park live oak is not a Mesquite hackberry, and a Cedar Hill parkway is not a Southlake estate plate. We spec depth to what we uncover.
Housing. escarpment estates at Lake Ridge, older downtown, High Pointe two-stories chalk-cut trenches, lake-ridge decks, HOA walks in High Pointe
Lake Ridge is chalk and canopy. High Pointe is sod match. Do not mix them.
How we trench this pairing
- Panel count We mark every cupped panel and the tree that owns it. One tree can own four panels.
- Trench the parkway Vertical cut on the tree side of the walk. Stay off the walk unless a panel is already coming out.
- Set and join 24–36 inch HDPE, joints locked so a root cannot thread the seam at a driveway cut.
- Restore Sod, soil, and edge. HOA and city walks get photos if they want them.
Cedar Hill dispatch pockets: Downtown Cedar Hill, High Pointe, Lake Ridge, Bear Creek, Joe Pool edge. Zips: 75104. County: Dallas County.

Questions we get on this pairing
Should I replace the sidewalk too?
If the panel is already a trip, yes — replace or grind, then barrier so the next panel is not a trip. Barrier under a still-flat walk is the cheaper day.
Will the HOA approve this?
Most DFW HOAs approve isolation plus restoration. We write the scope so the ACC sees a finished parkway, not an open trench.
Do you grind?
We can grind as a temporary. We would rather install barrier so you are not grinding again in two summers.
Keep reading (different streets, different trenches)
- How we treat Oncor and Atmos marks — If the locate puts the line in the trench, we redesign. That is not a delay we apologize for.
- Richardson’s Canyon Creek cedar elms are sixty years in — The original tree crop is now the original walk crop. Laterals too. This is not a new-build HOA story.
- Wylie Woodbridge walks and downtown laterals — Fast growth, two products. HOA parkways west; square pecans downtown.
- Grinding a DFW sidewalk is a season, not a fix — The flare is still thickening. Year two the trip is back. Put a wall in.
- What old 2000s liners look like when we pull them — Brittle, shallow, roots over the top. North Dallas and Plano are full of them. Replacement, not staples.
