Parkway heave, ACC letters, sod match. Same day, two city hubs.
This note is about Root Barrier Installation on Murphy lots — not a copied service page. Maxwell Creek and Murphy Farms in zip 75094 are the streets we have in mind. Murphy is a Collin parkway city. Maxwell Creek and Murphy Farms oaks are mature enough to cup walks. We trench, set HDPE, restore sod, and leave the tree. It is the same twelve-year math as Allen, on a smaller map.
We batch Murphy with Wylie and Plano east. ACC letters are the usual call. Landmarks crews actually use: Murphy City Hall corridor, Maxwell Creek, FM 544, McMillen.
Murphy and Sachse share an east Collin truck
Parkway heave, ACC letters, sod match. Same day, two city hubs. That is the Murphy version of Installation: HOA notice on a parkway walk.
A root barrier is a vertical wall in the soil. We cut a trench on the structure side of the tree, set HDPE to the depth the roots actually use, lock the joints, and backfill so the panel cannot creep. Dallas–Fort Worth Blackland clay and Cross Timber sands make that depth a field measurement, not a catalog number.
North Texas trees do not fail walks because someone forgot a product name. They fail walks because a cedar elm or live oak was planted in a parkway that was never wide enough, then watered every summer. The root plate thickens at the surface. The walk cups. The HOA sends a letter. Grinding the panel buys a season. The flare is still there.
Soil, trees, and housing stock in Murphy
Soil. Blackland Prairie clay A panel hanging in a shrink-swell void is not a barrier — we backfill in lifts so Blackland clay does not open a highway behind the face.
Trees. live oak, cedar elm, red oak A Highland Park live oak is not a Mesquite hackberry, and a Murphy parkway is not a Southlake estate plate. We spec depth to what we uncover.
Housing. 2000s HOA two-stories, tight parkway strips HOA sidewalk heave, driveway aprons, pool decks
Parkway heave, ACC letters, sod match. Same day, two city hubs.
How we trench this pairing
- Walk the lot We mark the tree, the structure, irrigation, and the sewer cleanout. If the lateral is in the trench line, we say so before we cut.
- Trench A vertical cut on the structure side. Blackland clay stands a wall when it is not soup. After a two-inch storm we wait or shore. Cross Timber lots may want a wider face.
- Set panel HDPE seated to the trench floor, joints lapped or locked, top edge set so mowers do not catch it and so it still blocks surface roots.
- Backfill and restore Clay in lifts, sod or parkway match, walk edges cleaned. HOA and city parkways get the restoration they inspect for.

If the structure is a slab rather than a parkway, start with foundation root barrier. If the call is a plumber returning to the same lateral, read sewer line root barrier. Bamboo is a closed loop — see bamboo barrier installation.

Questions we get on this pairing
How deep do you install a root barrier in Dallas?
Most HOA parkways take 24 to 36 inches. Specimen oaks at a slab and estate laterals often go deeper. We measure the root plate; we do not guess from a brochure.
Will the tree die?
Not if the tree is a healthy oak, pecan, or cedar elm and we are cutting on one side. We are redirecting new growth, not girdling the tree. A tree that is already failing gets a different conversation.
How long does a typical install take?
A single parkway run is often a day. A full foundation ring or a bamboo perimeter is longer. We tell you the window when we walk the lot.

- Dallas Uptown infill slabs in old drip lines — New beam, old plate. Prune, panel, keep what canopy is left.
- Garland’s Firewheel is the HOA exception — The rest of Garland is city-old walks and pecans. Firewheel is Plano math. Write them separately.
- Little Elm’s Union Park is still cheap; lakefront is not — Young HOA oaks inland. Water-seeking roots on the lake. Write them separately.
- The HOA letter is not a tree removal order — They want a flat walk. Isolation plus restoration is how you keep the oak and close the file.
- Recycled sheet in North Texas sun turns into trash — Brittleness is a prairie-sun problem. Virgin HDPE on Arlington and Fort Worth lots.
